Tempered glass, often referred to as toughened glass, is engineered for safety through advanced thermal processing, offering strength three to five times that of conventional glass. During production, glass is heated to an impressive 620°C, followed by swift cooling. This creates a surface compressive layer and an internal tensile stress layer, providing exceptional impact resistance and thermal endurance of 200°C temperature variations. If broken, it breaks into blunt-edged, honeycomb-like fragments, significantly reducing injury risks. This glass is extensively used in diverse applications such as curtain walls, doors/windows, partitions, and furniture. Once tempered, it cannot be re-cut. Its spontaneous breakage risk stands at about 0.3%, often due to nickel sulfide impurities, but this is effectively minimized through laminated processes.
