This impressive sturdiness is achieved by heating the glass to a precise 620°C, followed by an accelerated cooling phase. This process forms a protective surface compressive stress layer while maintaining an internal tensile stress layer, significantly boosting impact resistance and thermal stability (capable of withstanding temperature differences up to 200°C). In the unfortunate event of shattering, it breaks into honeycomb-shaped, blunt particles, greatly minimizing the risk of injury. This glass is a popular choice for applications such as curtain walls, doors/windows, partitions, and furniture. Once tempered, it cannot be re-cut, preserving its integrity. There is a minor, approximately 0.3% risk of spontaneous breakage, often due to nickel sulfide impurities, which can be effectively reduced through lamination.
